Hi, Iām Bre. Iām a severe preeclampsia survivor and NICU mama navigating motherhood after pregnancy and birth trauma. I decided to create Mothermade as a way to share my journey and connect with others who have walked similar paths.
I canāt believe I get to write thisāthat we are bringing another little life into the world this summer. After all of the complications and trauma with Adeline and our miscarriage last year, I didnāt know if this post would be in our future.
But we are here. And I am so, so grateful. š¤
Iāll share more about our journey to get here soon, but for now, I just want to celebrate this new little life, our rainbow GIRL. š šø
Weāre almost halfway and, because of our prior miscarriage, it was really hard to connect with this pregnancy until we made it past 12 weeks. And even then, I have felt very cautious. Hence, not sharing publicly until now!
We found out in late October, and I obsessively tested for those first few weeks. My doctor ordered early HCG tests, an early ultrasound, and immediately put me on progesterone (side note: I love her!).
Everything up to this point has looked great. Baby is growing well. Iām not rapidly gaining weight as I did with Adeline. Iām taking baby aspirin to hopefully prevent a recurrence of preeclampsia, and weāre managing my hypothyroidism and diabetes well (letās not add anything else to the list, mmkay?!).
We found out itās a girl on Christmas Day. š„¹ Nothing special; we just opened the envelope they gave us. We werenāt sure if we wanted to find out since we didnāt with Adeline, but we thought it could be fun to have a different experience this time. And I truly think knowing helped me connect earlier with this post-miscarriage pregnancy.

Itās so fun thinking about adding another girl to our crew. It totally made me rethink the nursery setupāmy sister said her kiddos always want to have sleepovers in each otherās rooms, so Iām planning to have Adeline and baby girl #2 share a room. Sisters are the best. š
Tim is the best girl dad, and I love having a little girl. We both canāt wait to bring this newest little love into the world. Adeline knows what a baby is and knows how to say ābaby sister,ā otherwise Iām not sure she totally knows whatās coming š
My hope is this pregnancy continues to go smoothly, and we get to do all the things we missed out on last time: nesting, meal prepping, baby showering, nursery building, golden hour⦠taking our baby home with us.
We love this little girl so much already and canāt wait to meet her. š¤
What to expect from Mothermade.
Motherhood is already a beautiful, messy, wild adventure. So when you add pregnancy and birth trauma on top of it, thereās a lot to process. My hope for Mothermade is to talk openly and honestly about not just the beautiful parts of motherhood, but the messy ones, too. Iāll talk healing, health, hardships, and navigating mothering and family planning after trauma.
